I started this piece as a communal quilt project when California was ordered to stay at home and shelter in place for what we were told (and thought) would be three weeks. Hand stitching pieces of found fabric together was somewhat of a meditation and a repository for my anxieties. Similar to the way people turned to baking and gardening, it was comforting to watch something grow as a result of my manual labor. Suddenly, weeks turned into months, and although I continued adding to my pandemic quilt through a few Netflix series, when the goal posts continued to move, I lost my steam for and other things became more pressing. I'd like to know what happened to the work of all of the other quilters. Maybe one day we will meet and sew all of our pandemic quilts together.
